I always wondered what it was that put me off about this song, cos far as my tastes go it is not a BAD song, musically, nor was it even the sorta of innocent badness that comes of playing any decent to great song TOO much on the radio, to the point the more they force it down your throat more you grow to despise it. (Which did happen to mild extent at times in retail.)
But there was also this bizarre quality of forced insincerity to it?
I couldn’t pin it down, maybe the lyrics had just a tad much childishness in them, too much ‘clap along with me everybody la la la’ edutainment host vibe, which, even there, should by right have something else going for it, yet doesn’t ….because such kinda pop music or tv icons often has good fun energy…think of shows like Yo Gabba Gabba or LazyTown….such personas whether in Pop or TV entertainment still have that kind of zingy usually obnoxious colorful energy that makes you (when successful) find their glurgey joyous zeal infectious, and danceable, especially as a kid, but, even adults could smile and find enjoyment and positive uplifting wavelengths in. That’s the point, to be pulled into the moment of happiness and exercise or participate along with your kids, or other fools on the dance floor at your sisters wedding. A good Lady Gaga song or DEVO track or Weird Al even, while despite being wildly different artists and have RADICALLY different image and sound demographic goals, they equally completely share this same colorful *vivaciousness* to me.
But Pharrell’s weird. He is missing of that mark to me. But this song encapsulates it, or tries to, so hard, with beautiful catchy smooth modern yet retro beats and the ultra carefree cheery lyrics and this very ‘70s disco soft falsetto’ kinda croon.
And yet, there’s kind of this flatness to it all. The music YEARNS for a Weird Al or a Jack White or a Taylor or just someone with sincere giddy excitement in their vocals here. https://youtu.be/zq7Eki5EZ8o?si=pPPNQH0iSZwU6WHy
I keep bringing up Al Yankovich, because, well, just listen to it… he mimics the sound exactly the same like Pharrell way he usually does in his tributes…but HE brings to this song exactly the energy it has got missing. His unique voice takes this actual sense of HE IS HAVING FUN, nay, HE IS HAVING SHAMELESS AMOUNTS OF FUN into the mix. For some strange reason in his parody cover, clever lyrical humor aside, I genuinely find weird Al‘s energy in his parody version ‘Tacky’ WAY better, way more clap-along-with-me-now! more uplifting than the original. Almost to a point I gotta wonder if he knew on some tiny level this song’s background, and appreciated either the irony or likes Pharrell personally and resonated with him/felt this decent song deserved his energy, enough to creatively motivate Al to do the parody in the very first place??
Am I crazy?….am I overthinking this?
Pharrell in the original one sounds far from miserable, but he still sounds weary to me, the lyrics even kind of gave off this dissonant weariness, yet trying the best they can to instruct the listener to jump for joy, and clap along, as they smile forcibly, wearily, thru it. It reminds me every time I listen to it so much, SO FREAKING MUCH of the times when I will work gigs as a photo booth operator or other roles at Sweet 16s or proms or other major events. You stand there, and are not usually having a BAD TIME, it’s not BAD to be there, the food is good, people are in usually good spirit and paying you decent money to basically just stand around and be there. Yet despite that? You CANT FUCKING WAIT TO GET THE HELL HOME. Every minute is soul rending torture, and you can’t even know why, other than beyond you are just bored and tired, and don’t wanna be here, basking in the glow of a total stranger’s party.

"I'm Not a Furry" by Charismaenigma
Well, I'm not a furry
But I might look like one
Sometimes I wear a tail
‘Cause I find it kinda fun
My paws are always fluffy
Fursuit's getting stuffy
And the cons are where I roam
Well, I can join any group that I want to in my fur
With glee
And cola seems to be my magic potion
Artists better grab your pens
And sketch some motion
I'm unique
With every stitch and seam in place
Expressing who I am
When did I embrace this warmth?
For creativity's sake
Where is my alter ego?
If home is where my heart is
Then my heart's in this costume show
I'm not pretending
But I feel like a star
Sometimes I'm an animal
Other times a work of art
My spirit's always soaring
Imagination's roaring
In this world, I am free
Well, I can be any character that I choose to be
In dreams
And music turns to be my anthem strong
Friends gather round, let's sing our song
And dance along
I'm proud
With every mask, I tell a tale
Creating my own path
When did life become so bright?
For furry's sake
Let's celebrate this world we know
If joy is where my heart is
Then my heart's in this furry glow _________________________________________________ The Many Faces of Charismaenigma

Coolio featuring L.V. - Gangsta's Paradise 1995
"Gangsta's Paradise" is a song by American rapper Coolio, released on August 1, 1995 from his second studio album. Interpolating Stevie Wonder's 1976 song "Pastime Paradise", "Gangsta's Paradise" features vocals from American singer L.V. who served as a co-composer and co-lyricist with Coolio and Doug Rasheed, with Wonder also being credited for the composition and lyrics. L.V. released a solo version of the single in 1996 on his debut album, I Am L.V. This version featured additional lyrics written by L.V. himself, with rap lyrics written by Scarface and Dani Blooms. "Weird Al" Yankovic's parody "Amish Paradise" reached number 53 on the US chart.
The single reached number one in the US, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand, making it Coolio's most successful single. In Australia, the song stayed at number 1 for 14 weeks, a record that would only be broken 22 years later by Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You". Following Coolio's appearance on Celebrity Big Brother 6, it re-entered the UK singles chart peaking at number 31. In the UK, "Gangsta's Paradise" was the first rap single to sell over a million copies as well as the first rap single ever to go straight to number one. In the US, the single spent twelve weeks in the top two of the Billboard Hot 100, of which three were spent at number 1 and nine at number 2. The song was certified triple platinum by the RIAA on February 23, 1996, indicating 3 million copies sold. It has sold a further 1.9 million downloads in the US in the digital era as of September 2022. Following Coolio's death on September 28, 2022, "Gangsta's Paradise" debuted two days later at number 5 on the UK Official Singles Sales Chart Top 100, and reentered the Official Top 100 Singles Chart on 7 October 2022 at number 55.
In 2008, it was ranked number 38 on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop". Coolio was awarded a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance, two MTV Video Music Awards for Best Rap Video and Best Video from a Film, and a Billboard Music Award for the song/album. The song was voted as the best single of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' poll. The accompanying music video for the song was directed by American film director Antoine Fuqua and featured Michelle Pfeiffer reprising her earlier role as US Marine LouAnne Johnson in the movie Dangerous Minds. The video also includes scenes from the movie. The video hit one billion YouTube views in July 2022.
"Gangsta's Paradise" received a total of 92,1% yes votes! 🎉

HEY YOU! DO YOU LIKE WILL WOOD AND TALLY HALL?
id assume so given my audience mostly knows me for the CCCC album art-
NO OFFENSE BUT PLEASE EXPAND YOUR MUSIC TASTE! HERES SOME OTHER BANDS YOU MAY LIKE! (both popular and niche!)
Number one we’ve got my personal favorite, IGORRR, a very out there band these fuckers make metal with opera, swing, classical and polka elements! very good shit
Then we’ve got van dyke parks, an old feller who makes whimsical music to wisp you off to fantasy lands (i personally like Sassafrass and black gold by him :•) )
Then we’ve got Primus, primus sucks. Listen to primus
Tom waits! Many of you have probably heard me say his name before, tom waits is an grouchy old bastard who mostly does wacky jazz stuff (he also did the song Underground in the film “Robots”)
Dr steel! another personal favourite, mostly industrial, this musician will make you feel like a mad scientist! (i personally like lament for a toy factory and ode to revenge)
next up, sElf! these dudes did a track on the shrek ost and boy howdy their music slaps harder than diamonds
speaking of shrek, Smash mouth! yea yea laugh it up its the funny all star band but man their discography has some bangers (a personal favorite is “sorry about your penis”)
Femtanyl! another very harsh sounding artist, this lovely bastard is trans! (im pretty sure- the lyrics seem to imply it a lot)
Also stomach book! another trans(?) artist!
Weird Al Yankovic, he needs no introduction

Hi! I'm not sure if somebody asked you this before, but what types of music do you think the Reds are into? Maybe you have some examples of artists you think they like?
Sarge definitely likes a lot of country-western and classic rock/folk rock, but surprisingly loves more soulful music as well, jazz and blues (he wishes it wasn't called that, but oh well), and isn't afraid to give any musical genre a listen, which leads him to liking many songs that are funk/hip-hop/rap (he's also secretly a huge fan of Stevie Nicks and Dolly Parton). Some of his favorite songs are "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "War" by Edwin Starr, "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash, "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, "Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring, "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers, "99 Red Balloons" by Nena, "September" by Earth Wind and Fire, "Country Roads" by John Denver, "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band, and "Hit 'em High" by B-Real/Coolio/Method Man/LL Cool J/Busta Rhymes
Simmons tries to play-up being a fan of classical music to seem impressive... and he DOES like it, but he's also a big dork who loves songs that are specifically made for movies (Ghostbusters, everything Will Smith did for his films, etc), and collects soundtracks for whatever he likes (he really digs musical scores, like Jurassic Park and such). He also really likes 80s bops and techno/synth music, but doesn't want to admit he's into "nerd music". He also likes oldies and "soda fountain hits" from the 50s and 60s. Some of his favorite songs are "Take on Me" by A-ha, "Mad World" by Tears for Fears, "Sh-Boom" by the Chords, "Get in Line" by the Bare Naked Ladies, "The Impression That I Get" by the Mighty Bosstones, "Rocket Man" by Elton John, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers, "Yoda" by Weird Al Yankovic, "It's the End of the World as We Know It" by REM, "Carry On" by Kansas, "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo, "Johnny B Goode" by Chuck Berry
Grif will just say he likes "whatever", because he doesn't focus too much on one genre (and he doesn't want to admit he likes a lot of "oldie" rock, some pop and hippie music), and plays up liking chill zone-out songs more. He does enjoy a few weird/experimental/alt music (grunge and what-not). Some of his favorite songs are "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister, "Baba O'Riley" by the Who, "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane, "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics, "Stay Home" by Self, "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys, "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones, "If I Had a Million Dollars" by the Bare Naked Ladies, "Here I go Again" by Whitesnake, "Rock and Roll All Nite" by Kiss, "Headstrong" by Trapt, "But Anyway" by Blues Traveler
Donut does indeed love a lot of pop songs/dance music, but randomly likes more edgy stuff, but usually not too dark (some hip-hop in there, some alt rock, punk, and glam metal). Basically anything really catchy, which he WILL play over and over again when it is his turn to control the radio. Like Grif and Simmons, stuff he enjoys were in the soundtracks for movies he watched, and he has an appreciation for disco. Some of his favorite songs are "Cele-B-R-A-T-E" by Russell Velázquez, "Shake Your Groove Thing" by Peaches and Herb, "Car Wash" by Rose Royce, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, "Dancing in the Street" by Myra, "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways, "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, "Wanna Be" by the Spice Girls, "Foot Loose" by Kenny Loggins, "Changes" by David Bowie, and "Ballroom Blitz" by the Sweet, "Baby One More Time" by Bowling For Soup
Lopez mostly enjoys more serious music, soulful love songs, and the occasional power-ballad... but he is not immune to a catchy tune with fun lyrics, including pop and salsa, and electronic music (though, he'll probably lie and insist somebody ELSE put it on the radio, and he just hasn't bothered to change it). Some of his favorite songs are "I'd Do Anything for Love" by Meat Loaf, "You Sang to Me" by Marc Anthony, "Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias, "On Melancholy Hill" by Gorillaz, "Harder Better Faster Stronger" by Daft Punk, "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by the Clash, "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, "Satellite" by Smash Mouth, "No Children" by the Mountain Goats, "The Final Countdown" by Europe, "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, and "I Love You Too Much" by Diego Luna

I don't think any of us can analyse a tmbg song as hard as weird al yankovic. that guy locked onto the car crash motifs, final chorus change-up, surf rock interludes, syncopated, non-rhyming stream of consciousness lyrics, and high backing vocals back in 1996
#barring the band themselves ofc#I think ''everything you know is wrong'' takes bits from all of their work up until then#but is very distinctly ''apollo 18' with their debut album production style#and I'm sure there's something about their favoured chord progressions he took into consideration that I'm missing

Hi, Fish! If you search for "New Years Eve Polka ft "Weird Al" Yankovic, The Roots" you can find the video of the song I told you about at the end of the last stream. If you just search "Weird Al new year's eve polka," the first result is the "official lyric video" which is just the words on a generic holiday background. The 2nd result should be the performance video from the Jimmy Fallon holiday special (complete with lederhosen and accordion). Happy New Year! From Notben
Oh, thank you!! That's so fun. I never knew how much I needed another New Year's Eve song until now! (link for anyone who wants to watch/listen)

Tom Lehrer has put all his music into the public domain. But his site will shut down soon, so download his mp3s now!
Though his site will shut down soon, because he released his music into the public domain this of course shouldn't be the last chance to find it. The Internet Archives' Wayback Machine has it archived here if the above link no longer works. Tom Lehrer was born in 1928 and was a satire and comedy pianist. Note that I write "was" here not because he's dead, but because he largely retired from public performance in the early 1970s to devote his time to teaching mathematics and musical theater history, and in 2001 he retired from that as well. But he's very much alive and kicking! He's inspired Weird Al Yankovic and was Tim Minchin and Stephen Lynch before either of them were born!
You're most likely to know him for the Elements...
youtube
...but you should clearly listen to Smut!
youtube
#Tom Lehrer#The Supreme Court of the USA still needs this reminder it seems#Comedy Music#humor#The Elements was never featured in Animaniacs despite what your memory tells you#People are likely confusing it with the Nations of the World by Yakko Warner that's also a list of things sung at high tempo.#But that was written by Randy Rogel#...and performed by Rob Paulsen as Yakko#Anyways: Build up your mp3 collection so you can stop giving money to Spotify/Apple/YouTube#Youtube

does Albuquerque by "Weird" Al Yankovic count as a prog rock song
- weird chord progression
- 11 minutes long
- arrhythmic singing and experimental lyricism
- random (but impressive) guitar solos

For inktober word 'Nomadic' I immediately thought of the song 'Nomad' by walk off the earth.
In the lyrics they say 'Yeah, you know I'm down with that.. I'm down to keep it nomadic', but the way it was phrased made me think of avatar the last airbender. You know, because they are air nomads.
That's why I made this mash-up, to honour both.
Honoustly, I tried going for a Weird Al Yankovic vibe.
Ow, and if you squint hard enough you can also envision anger from inside out.

OK!!! So @whimsycentral wanted me to share some thoughts about what type of music Cosmic Owl and Prismo liked so here it is :]
srry by now if any mistake at writing lmao
Prismo
Personally, I think this guy likes happy music, well not necessary... happy, more like... full of vibe to enjoy!! Even if the lyrics are about smone wanting to k#ll himself, if the song is vibe-able, he will absolutely like it
Still tho, I feel like he definitely is the Cosmic Being more open to different music styles! :)
Anyways here are some examples of music he could like (But I need to say, I probably do not know all the music of the artist I'll mention!! same with the incoming in Cosmic's section, is just based in one or some songs I do know- srry)
- "Weird Al" Yankovic (You can't tell me I'm wrong)
- The Living Tombstone
- Imagine Dragons
- The Stupendium
And maybe some more Pop music of the old one! NSYNC, Michael Jackson, Queen, and more, but he would be more into the actual music, y'know?
Cosmic Owl
OKKK!!! So, I have thought about music he would like for sooooo long, I could resume
Retro/Old vibe music
And that even includes 8 bits!! And that's kinda a fact, in the episode "Hoots" the music he puts in a scene is quite 8 Bit vibe!!! I just checked it I swear!! :]
But going to other music, the music would 100% be of love
Just hear me out
"Just The Two Of Us" - "You Rock My World " - "I Was Made For Lovin' You" - "Old Fashioned Lover Boy"
AALLL of those make me think on Cosmic listening to them
But also more vibe-able ones
"Take On Me" (no wait I think that one is of love, right? Srry I'm not sure of the lyric of the song! well we talking about the vibe rn ^_^) - "Another One Bites The Dust" - "Staying Alive" - "September" - "Mr Blue Sky"
ALL OF THOSE Cosmic for sure would vibe to them!! ^__^
But of course all this is my own opinion...
Sorry if I haven't explained myself enough! But I hope you agree in my opinion and options choosed!!!
Kinda silly post but I got rlly interested in sharing this hshsh <3
Lemme know if you'll like to hear more Music Headcanons or just Headcanons in general hshshs 💛💛💛
bye byeeee
#headcanons! 💛#cosmic owl#prismo the wishmaster#the cosmic owl#adventure time#fionna and cake#Prismo#I LOVE THIS TWO SM!!!#AND I LOVED WRITING THIS <3
